Granite
For centuries, granite has been used throughout the world as a reliable and rugged building material due to its natural beauty and extremely hard surface. Today, this natural stone is commonly used as granite countertops and for other commercial and residential applications. We aim to provide our customers the perfect stone to match their project on any given day. Visit one of our show rooms to see our constantly updated, large inventory of granite slabs in many styles and colors, at all six of our locations. Keep reading to browse through some of our unique granite and newest arrivals. Colors and products may vary by location, so contact the location nearest you for more information on current inventory. About Granite Origin: Granite is a igneous rock containing at least 20% quartz by volume, but also some mica and feldspar. It’s mined around the world, including India, Brazil, Norway, Italy and China. The largest granite quarry in the United States is near Barre, Vermont. Environmental Impact: Medium. Granite is durable and recyclable, but requires large amounts of energy for transport, and mining is very resource-intensive. Pros: Each slab is unique, hard, durable, scratch-resistant, impervious to stains, heat, and water when sealed, relatively easy to clean, comes in all…
Quartz
Quartz is a man-made engineered stone surface formed by combining 90% ground quartz (a natural hard mineral) with 8-10% resins, polymers, and pigments. This forms a very hard granite-like surface. How it looks depends on how the quartz is ground: coarsely-ground quartz produces a flecked appearance while finely-ground quartz produces a smooth look. Unique Stone Concepts now carries two quartz lines: Our PolarStone line is inspired by timeless Italian marble. No other surface on the market combines perfect marble design with the durability of quartz. These advanced quartz surfaces are heat, chip and stain resistant and made for those who love to cook. Enjoy preparing your favorite meals on this non-porous and non-absorbent surface. No bacteria growth, no need to seal or reseal. Created by innovative engineering and exclusively offered by Unique Stone Concepts. Our Ellipse Quartz line includes colors specifically chosen to meet market demands. We’ve recently added 3 colors to our Ellipse Quartz – Natural Series that offer the natural look of limestone. Ellipse Quartz combines up to 93% quartz with the latest thermo-cure, binding technology. These surfaces come from our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, and are non-porous, waterproof, stain and scratch resistant and easy to maintain. Ellipse Quartz surfaces…
Quartzite
Quartzite, which is predominantly silica, is a hard non-foliated metamorphic rock which was originally sandstone. Sandstone is converted into quartzite through heating and pressure related to tectonic compression. Its siliceous nature makes it a perfect choice for kitchen countertops because chemically it has a very high resistance to anything acidic. The most popular quartzites currently in the market come from the northeast of Brazil. These colors include Taj Mahal, Perla Venata, Nacarado, Fusion, and White Macubus. Quartzites are even harder than granite, which makes them ideal for interior and exterior uses. For many years, Quartzite has been considered a high-end finish and has been used throughout the world as a reliable, versatile building material. It has the strongest hardness compared to all natural stones available. Quartzite tends to have veining and softer, simple movements compared to granite. We strive to import as many colors of quartzite as possible, however color selections may be limited. All six of our showrooms – St. Louis, MO, Kansas City, KS, Omaha, NE, Indianapolis, IN, Columbus, OH, and Cincinnati, OH – generally stock a few variations of quartzite at any given time. Check out our quartzite slab inventory and newest arrivals. Appearance – Pure quartzite…
Marble
Marble is another popular choice of different countertop materials, and has been a sign of luxury and prestige for centuries. Commercially, any stone that can be polished is also known as marble, with the exception of granite. This includes serpentine, travertine, limestone and onyx. Often called “green” marble, serpentine marble is not actually marble but looks very similar and is more stain- and spill-proof than marble. The most popular marbles come from Carrara, Italy. These include Carrara (from which Michelangelo sculpted his Statue of David) to Calacatta, Statuary, and White Venatino. Spain is also a source for well-known marbles such as Crema Marfil and Emperador Dark. However, many countries around the world have marble quarries, including the United States, which is where we buy our popular Danby line. Marbles are not as hard or scratch-resistant as granites or quartzites, but they are still commonly used for countertops. It’s hard to beat the beauty and natural look of a true marble! Whether used for tile floors, countertops or bathroom remodels, marble is the stone of choice for making a lasting impression. Unique Stone Concepts has an unprecedented selection of the finest marble slabs from around the world. Our vast inventory includes a…
Danby Marble
Our Danby marbles are all quarried in Vermont at the largest underground marble quarry in the world. Danby marbles are harder and less porous than many other marbles, which makes them more suitable for countertop materials than your typical marble. The most popular Danby marbles include the reasonably priced Mountain White, Olympia, Eureka and MontClair as well the more luxurious and expensive Imperial. Due to its unmatched durability and stain resistance, Danby marble is an excellent countertop or tile flooring for both residential and commercial projects. Unique Stone Concepts offers a vast selection of Danby Marble slabs in all six of our locations – St. Louis, MO, Kansas City, KS, Omaha, NE, Indianapolis, IN, Columbus, OH, and Cincinnati, OH. We invite you to browse the Danby Marble selections we currently have in stock below. Please contact us if you have any questions or would like additional information regarding our Danby Marble inventory.
Soapstone, Slate and Sandstone
Soapstone Soapstone has a timeless, rustic appearance which makes it a popular choice for kitchen countertops. It is a natural stone, like granite, that is quarried. Soapstone is non-porous and composed mostly of mineral talc, which makes it quite soft (it can etch and scratch easily), but varieties used for countertops typically have higher percentages of quartz in them, which makes them harder and more suitable as a kitchen surface. The most popular soapstone comes from Brazil and in its natural state is grey with some white veining. Many homeowners will oil the soapstone at installation which can leave it with a much darker and richer background color. Unique Stone Concepts offers only a few soapstone options, as this material has a more limited supply compared to other natural stones. If you have any questions regarding our soapstone slabs, please feel free to contact us. Appearance – The color of soapstone ranges greatly depending upon the type of soapstone used. Over time, soapstone develops a natural patina and a soapy feel when touched. Features – The material is stain, chemical and water resistant but scratches easily. Pros – Beautiful natural grey color, smooth matte feel, resistant to etching from acids,…
Limestone
Limestone is a versatile building material that can be used in either commercial or residential construction projects. Limestone quarries can be found around the world, including very large ones in the United States. Most limestone is softer and less dense than granite and more homogeneous in appearance. We carry a full line of limestones from Portugal, as well as the very well-known Jura Beige and Jura Grey limestones from Germany. All are excellent materials for countertops as well as all flooring applications. One interesting features of some limestones is that they will have actual fossils throughout the slab. These fossils can be millions of years old. We import the highest quality limestone slabs from around the world to offer to you in one of our six locations – St. Louis, MO, Kansas City, KS, Omaha, NE, Indianapolis, IN, Columbus, OH, and Cincinnati, OH. Take a look at a few of our limestone offerings. If you have any questions regarding any of our limestone slabs, please free to contact us with any questions you may have. Appearance – Most limestone from the United States is light in color, ranging from yellow to pink to gray in color. Limestone imported from other…
